Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Starting a new job can be nerve-racking, but we promise you don’t need to worry. To help you settle in at GoCo, we’ve put together a list of the frequently asked questions we get from new starters and the respective answers.

Our locations

Where are the GoCo offices located?
We have two locations, one in Newport in South Wales (address: Imperial House, Imperial Way, Newport NP10 8UH) and one in London (address: Medius House, 2 Sheraton St, London W1F 8BH).
Is there room to park by the Newport office?
Yes. We have secure offsite parking for staff at one of our neighbouring businesses, GCell. The address is GCell, Imperial Park, Newport NP10 8A.

On your first day, drive up to the barrier, press the intercom and tell the parking assistant that it’s your first day. They’ll help you find a space. Once you’re parked, follow the pavement around to reach our building.
Are the GoCo Group offices open?
All of our offices are currently closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, our recruitment and onboarding have been adapted to give new starters a full and friendly induction to GoCo Group from the comfort and safety of their homes.

Working from home

How are you communicating with employees while the office is closed?
We keep everyone up to date and in touch through a variety of ways:
  • All staff members have their own email addresses. 
  • We use Slack instant messenger, which allows you to talk to colleagues across the Group, join departmental channels and keep up to date with all things GoCo. 
  • We have a bi-weekly Group newsletter with the latest stories from across our brands and things to get involved in. 
  • We have our intranet, GoConnect, where you can find lots of information. 
  • We have regular team meetings, daily huddles and brand-wide events.
What does remote onboarding look like?
We’ve made the remote onboarding process simple. A week before your start date, your laptop and any other kit you require from us will be delivered to your home address. 

On your start date, you’ll join other new starters and a member of the People team on Microsoft Teams. This call will be the start of your induction. Throughout the rest of your first week, you’ll continue your induction to GoCo Group and your team.

Benefits

Is private health cover available to all employees?
Yes. All GoCo Group employees have the opportunity to sign up to our current Private Medical Insurance provider Bupa.
Do I pay for Bupa cover directly?
No. It’s what we call a benefit in kind.
Can I add family members onto Bupa if I pay directly?
No. Unfortunately, this is not an option at the moment.
Will my pre-existing conditions be included by my Bupa cover?
Possibly. We can provide a Bupa membership guide to explain how your health insurance would work and what is and isn’t covered. If you choose to join the scheme, the precise details of your Bupa cover will be listed on your membership certificate.
Do I have to be with GoCo Group for a certain length of time before I can join the healthcare scheme?
No. You can join the healthcare scheme from day one as part of your induction.

Pensions and shares

What are the GoCo Group pension schemes?
We offer a Group personal pension scheme that you’re entitled to join at any point in your employment. You’ll find out more in your induction, after which you’ll have access to a breakdown of our pension schemes on our intranet. Our current pension scheme provider is Scottish Widows.
Do I have to be with GoCo Group for a certain length of time before I can join the pension scheme?
No. You can join the pension scheme from day one as part of your induction.
When can I join the GoCo Group share schemes?
You can join the Share Incentive Plan once you’ve received confirmation that you’ve passed probation. For the Share Save scheme, you will need to be eligible for the plan at the time of launch (it’s normally launched around August/September each year).

Time off and working hours

Can I get sick pay during my probation period?
Usually, no. Normally, sickness during probation is treated as unpaid. However, it is discretionary and we consider each case individually.
I have a pre-booked holiday. Can I take it?
Usually, yes. To help make this possible, you must make your interviewers aware of your pre-booked holiday and make your manager aware of it as soon as you start, if not before.
What happens if I have a medical appointment?
Employee wellbeing is our top priority. Where possible, please arrange medical and dental appointments outside normal working hours, or at the beginning or end of the working day. As soon as possible after booking your appointment, you should tell your manager. You are allowed two hours for an appointment. Hospital appointment requests will be reviewed on an individual basis.
Can I change my working hours once I start?
If you’d like to change your working hours to outside our core working hours, please discuss this with your manager. Afterwards, you can submit a flexible working request.
Do you allow condensed working hours?
We are committed to providing equality of opportunity in employment and to developing practices and policies that support work-life balances. Please discuss any questions surrounding condensed working hours with your manager.
I’ve heard that I don’t have to work on my birthday. Is that true?
Yes! You get your birthday off as an additional day.

Job positions

Do you have entry level positions?
Yes. We post all positions on our careers site when they’re available.
Do you offer part-time positions?
Most positions we offer are full-time, but we occasionally have part-time roles. GoCo roles are advertised as ‘up to 37.5 hours’. Most of our roles can be worked on a reduced hours basis; if you’re interested in finding out more, please get in touch so we can discuss what we can accommodate on an individual basis.
Do you operate any ‘refer a friend’ schemes?
Yes. You can recommend as many people as you like. For each recommendation that leads to a permanent hire, you’ll receive up to £2,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Objectives and recognition

How and when do we set our annual objectives?
Your manager will set mutually agreed goals for you to work towards once you start in your role. Then, at the start of each new year, new goals are set by your manager.
Do you have a process for receiving bonuses?
Yes. We have an annual bonus scheme. It is linked to your individual performance against the goals that you set with your manager at the start of the year and the overall performance of the company.
Do you have any recognition schemes?
Yes. Each brand has its own recognition scheme. For departments and teams, there is discretionary recognition and other ways to say thank you. We also host annual awards, where employees nominate colleagues for their contribution.
Do you reward length of service?
Yes. We celebrate length of service at 5 year and 10 year milestones. At 10 years of service, you receive a £500 shopping voucher. We also increase the number of holiday days allowed when you pass 3 year, 5 year and 10 year milestones.
