Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
We’re all in this together
Inclusion and diversity increase creativity, deliver innovation, improve performance and better serve our customers. We firmly believe in the ethos that companies with greater diversity perform better than those that don’t. Different backgrounds, experiences and mindsets make for a productive, varied and effective workforce. Not only is it right to encourage and support equality, diversity and inclusion for all, it also makes good business sense.
Equality, diversity and inclusion for all
Programmes
We have a variety of programmes that make sure everyone can succeed here. Our first ever Group-wide mentorship programme, GoMentorMe, launched in 2020. It uses our internal leadership and subject matter expertise to develop and nurture talent across the Group through 121 mentorship meetings. We also give every GoCo apprentice their own mentor and a buddy from their discipline for their first year in the business.
Networks and communities
Through grassroots programmes and campaigns with local educators, we help students from low socioeconomic backgrounds access and experience the world of work. Our first STEM Ambassadors programme sees female engineers and data scientists visit schools and community events to talk about the benefits of pursuing a career in STEM. We’ve even helped younger girls get into STEM by funding a cyber security badge for a local Brownies pack.
Events and awareness
We promote, organise and attend events and awareness sessions for diversity and inclusion initiatives. One area we’re active in is the push for gender equality in tech. We are committed to building a strong, visible support network available to those women who want to be a part of our industry across Wales, so we launched and sponsored the Digital Women Wales monthly meet-up in South Wales. There’s plenty more to come, too.
Support and policies
GoCo’s People team ensures that diversity and inclusion form a golden thread through all support and policies we have. We use blind CVs, gender language software and data-driven assessment methods to ensure everyone is assessed fairly. We have unconscious bias training, which highlights blind spots and suggests things to address them. We’ve made safe spaces for colleagues to meet and talk to each other.
Your first wealth is your health
A healthier team is a happier team. We know the value of looking after every single member of GoCo, so we offer a diverse range of health and wellbeing support for the mind and body. We have qualified mental health first aiders across the group to provide drop-ins and advice, mental health awareness training for our managers, readily available therapy sessions with qualified counsellors, access to the Headspace meditation app and much more. Throughout lockdown, we’ve had weekly chair yoga sessions over video call instead of in-office yoga and we’ve been sharing tips over Slack to keep each other motivated and feeling connected.
Celebrating and being celebrated
GoCo Group: International Women’s Day 2020
In 2020, the theme for International Women’s Day was #eachforequal. We took this opportunity to film some of our wonderful, empowering women and the GoCompare CEO Lee Griffin.
